Apollo VCT portfolio company story: Gradient Labs

Gradient labs is building AI agents that help banks and fintechs automate customer operations in regulated enviroments.

What Gradient Labs does

Founded in London in 2023, Gradient Labs has developed an AI-native customer operations platform built specifically for financial services businesses. Customer operations in financial services can be complex, often requiring teams to work across multiple systems, internal procedures and regulatory requirements to resolve customer enquiries.

Its specialist AI agents support activities across customer service, lending, disputes and KYC, working across channels including chat, email and voice. Rather than simply answering questions, the platform is designed to carry out multi-step processes across existing systems while maintaining appropriate controls and oversight.

By automating complex operational workflows, Gradient Labs helps financial services businesses improve efficiency, reduce costs and deliver a better customer experience, while allowing human oversight for sensitive decisions

Why we like it

We like Gradient Labs because it is addressing a large and growing need within financial services, where firms are under pressure to improve customer service and operational efficiency while maintaining high regulatory standards. Its platform has been built specifically for the complexity of the sector, combining AI automation with financial-services-specific processes and controls to help customers automate more sophisticated operational tasks rather than simply handling routine enquiries. We also value the founding team’s deep domain expertise, having previously held senior AI and machine learning roles at Monzo, giving them first-hand experience of building and deploying technology within a regulated financial services environment.
