A service shaped by personal experience

Octopus Legacy began after Sam, Founder and CEO, lost his Mum suddenly in 2016. It was tough enough, but the frustration of legal fees, closing down accounts, and endless tasks that came with it was overwhelming. He started Octopus Legacy to give other families the support that he wished he’d had.

Since then, Octopus Legacy has helped hundreds of thousands of people create estate plans and navigate loss, and has been recognised with the Customer Service Champions Award at the British Wills and Probate Awards.

While many estate planners focus solely on legal documents, Octopus Legacy goes further, helping your clients share more than just money and supporting them to shape a legacy that truly connects them with their loved ones, both now and in the future.

The estate planning packages explained

Estate planning essentials

Will & will with trust

Octopus Legacy can help you have a say in what matters most by writing or updating your will – including a will with trust.

Not only that, but they’ll also help to:

  • Ensure your will is signed correctly, making it legally binding
  • Store the will securely in their professional, world-class accredited legal document storage facility, protected from fire and water damage
  • Update your existing will for free in the future – as is recommended every five years, or any time you experience a major life change

Lasting Powers of Attorney (LPA)

Lasting Powers of Attorney allow you to choose someone you trust to make decisions on your behalf if you’re ever not able to, because of illness, an accident, or if you lose mental capacity.

Without LPA, even a spouse wouldn’t have the right to make decisions on your behalf; if anything happened to you, your loved ones would need to apply to the Court of Protection to be able to advocate for their wishes. This is an expensive and lengthy process.

Octopus Legacy can help you create a LPA simply and correctly.

Estate planning packages FAQs

Octopus Legacy (part of the Octopus Group) is a specialist estate-planning partner offering wills, LPAs, document storage, probate support and legacy tools. For Octopus investors, they provide legal, administrative and emotional guidance, helping families prepare well and navigate estate administration with greater confidence.

Estate planning and probate can be complex, time-consuming and emotionally overwhelming — especially for executors who have never been through the process before. Many people don’t realise how much work is involved until they are in the middle of it. Octopus Legacy provides clear, structured support that helps make the process far easier for you and your loved ones.

You benefit because Octopus Legacy helps you:

  • Put the right documents in place so your wishes are followed
  • Avoid common mistakes that can cause stress, delays or additional professional fees
  • Support your executors, who often face dozens of tasks at an already difficult time
  • Organise your information securely, so nothing important is missed or lost
  • Prepare your family emotionally, not just practically, through legacy tools like the Legacy Box or Legacy Film
  • Reduce the administrative burden with guidance, checklists and probate consultations
  • Minimise the need for professional intervention, which may help reduce overall costs

Many families say having a helping hand through Octopus Legacy gives them peace of mind — knowing their affairs are organised, their executors have somewhere to turn for guidance, and their loved ones will not be left tackling everything alone.

Speak to your financial adviser to understand whether you qualify for the Classic or Premier package and which services may be most appropriate.

Some circumstances where investors often find the packages particularly helpful include:

  • you have an outdated will or no will in place
  • you want to ensure your executors are supported and know what to do
  • your estate includes multiple assets such as property, investments or business interests
  • you want secure storage for important documents
  • you would like to leave personal messages or memories for loved ones
  • you want guidance through probate to reduce the burden on your family

Your adviser can help you choose the right package and explain how to access Octopus Legacy’s services.

The Classic and Premier packages are available to customers making a qualifying investment into the Octopus Inheritance Tax Service (OITS) or OITSPlus. A financial adviser can help determine whether you meet the eligibility criteria.

Each package includes will services, LPAs, secure storage, executor support and discounts on probate services. The Premier package offers additional benefits such as a Legacy Film and enhanced probate discounts. Download the brochure for full details

No. Octopus Legacy can help you complete many estate-planning tasks and reduce the need for solicitor involvement, but some situations — such as complex trusts or disputed estates — may still require specialist legal advice.

When someone dies, their Octopus investments can be passed on, held or sold, depending on the circumstances and the wishes in the will. Our Intergenerational Planning team helps advisers, executors and beneficiaries understand these options, including:

  • How to transfer investments to beneficiaries
  • When encashment might be required
  • How Business Relief may apply
  • What documentation HMRC and probate teams need

We also explain timelines, valuation requirements and any steps needed to avoid delays during the estate administration process.

The Legacy Box is a secure place to store practical documents and personal messages. It helps executors find what they need quickly and gives families reassurance that important information, memories and instructions are kept safely in one place.

The Legacy Film is a professionally recorded video used to capture stories, messages or memories for loved ones. It’s included in the Premier package and helps families preserve meaningful moments that go beyond the practical aspects of estate planning.

Including letters, advice, voice recordings and memories. 74% of people said that the best thing they were given after someone died had no monetary value. 86% of people said that these types of gifts helped them process their grief.

Have your clients ever worried that stories passed down from generation to generation might get lost? Octopus Legacy’s expert film crew will help your client craft questions to ask on film. They will come to their home and capture the stories that matter from their life, or of someone they love, and help them preserve them forever.
