Octopus has a strong balance sheet and can invest between £1m and £100m in a single transaction.

Development Capital team
Members of the team come from diverse backgrounds, such as banking, private equity, industry, and provide investment and on-going strategic support to businesses. They will also look to join the board of the portfolio companies as non-executive directors. They have the ability to originate and lead deals as well as invest alongside private equity firms and banks.
The Octopus Renewable Energy team, led by Matt Setchell, provides financing quickly and efficiently so our clients’ projects see the light of day. We provide equity, typically up to £5 million in value, and can also provide specialist debt, either on its own or alongside the equity. What’s more, we’re fast – our expertise means we can assess the technologies and complete due diligence efficiently.
Together with our key partner Lightsource Renewable Energy we have grown to be the UK’s largest investor in solar energy.
Estates and Probate Team
The Octopus Estates and Probate team works with financial advisers to make sure they are in the best position to advise a client’s estate after the client passes away. For some, it’s the first time a client has died holding one of our investments. We are here to explain the next steps and answer any questions. Advisers we work with often end up retaining assets by taking on beneficiaries as new clients.
Institutional Funds team
Our Institutional Funds team works closely with institutional investors across the Octopus Group. Our responsibilities cover investor relations, communications and fundraising.
The team’s overriding objective is to develop long-term relationships with our investors, who include many leading financial institutions, pension funds, fund of funds and family offices. As a true fiduciary, the relationship we have with our investors is at the heart of our business and drives everything we do.
We currently manage £1.3bn on behalf of institutional investors through a variety of vehicles including provide equity funds and a listed fund (the MedicX fund).
Multi manager team
Our Multi Manager team manages assets of over £1.2 billion*. They invest in funds that are managed by expert fund managers who are specialists in the asset types or markets for which they’ve been chosen, so your money is under the control of a large number of highly-talented individuals. These funds have global coverage across multiple asset classes, with the aim of building investment portfolios that do what we say they will.
But it’s not just about choosing the right investments at the right time. The team manages risk above all else, with the aim of making sure their portfolios can achieve the maximum returns for the risks taken. They think about risk so much it sometimes keeps them awake at night. But they do it so you don’t have to.
Please note that the value of an investment, and any income from it, can fall as well as rise. Investors may not get back the full amount they invest.
