CoMind
The next generation Brain Computer Interface technology
Funding stage: Seed +
What CoMind does
CoMind is building the next generation non-invasive Brain Computer Interface (BCI), that will effectively allow people to communicate with computers directly – using only their thoughts.
In the short-term, the technology will have applications in biomarker drug discovery, as it will allow for neural imaging at a very high temporal and spatial resolution. For example, scientists will be able to better understand how neurological disorders such as Alzheimer’s affect the brain, and allow them to directly see the impact neurological drugs are having. In the longer term, the technology will have applications as a consumer device, allowing users to interact with computers using only their minds. This breakthrough technology will form a basis for next generation gaming, augmented reality and virtual reality. The potential of this market has attracted strong interest in BCI technologies from the big tech firms, with Google, Microsoft, Facebook and others all acquiring BCI technologies to position themselves in this exciting market.
Why we like it
CoMind is building revolutionary technologies with ethics at the forefront. Their mission is to positively change how humans interact with technology, and to improve society’s understanding of the human brain and neurological disorders in ways that have not been possible before. While other companies are trying to create non-invasive technology in this sector, we believe CoMind will have a competitive advantage in their approach. The technology that forms the basis of the solution they are building, is capable of producing both a high spatial and temporal resolution, specifications which are currently traded off against each other in existing technologies. This level of resolution in neuroimaging will open many new and exciting areas of application, and we believe the potential this technology has is tremendous.
