We understand that advisers need easily accessible support to deliver the best advice to their clients. So we have BDMs covering the whole of the UK. We won’t be far away.

Please get in touch if you think we can help. We’d love to hear from you.

Client Relations team

We want to talk to our customers – and we have a team of relationship managers in Customer Services who are able to help out, whatever your question. Corporate Development team

Octopus Capital, the group holding company, reinvests the majority of the group’s earnings. Octopus Capital’s investment mandate is focused on making acquisitions for the group and developing a portfolio of strategic investments, including incubating new investment platforms. The portfolio is held on the group’s balance sheet and has over 25 investments including:

  • Acquired businesses
  • Joint ventures
  • Minority investments

Octopus Capital invests in management teams and businesses that are differentiated within its sectors of focus (financial services, energy, infrastructure and real estate) and who share its passion for putting customers first – whether consumers, corporates or institutions. Octopus has a strong balance sheet and can invest between £1m and £100m in a single transaction.

Key Octopus Capital transactions include:

  • 2014: Acquisition of MedicX Group (since rebranded Octopus Healthcare), the advisor to £900m of real estate Funds Under Management (including LSE-listed MedicX fund) and a development team.
  • 2013: Acquisition of Dragonfly-related service companies (since rebranded Octopus Property), bringing the end-to-end operation in-house.
  • 2011: Start-up investment alongside management and founders to form Lightsource Renewable Energy
  • 2008: Acquisition of Venture Capital Trust contracts and the associated investment team from Close Brothers.
  • 2007: Acquisition of Katalyst Ventures (since rebranded Octopus Ventures) from its founders.

Energy team

The Octopus Renewable Energy team, led by Matt Setchell, provides financing quickly and efficiently so our clients’ projects see the light of day. We provide equity, typically up to £5 million in value, and can also provide specialist debt, either on its own or alongside the equity. What’s more, we’re fast – our expertise means we can assess the technologies and complete due diligence efficiently.

Together with our key partner Lightsource Renewable Energy we have grown to be the UK’s largest investor in solar energy.

Estates and Probate team

The team is here to help advisers, solicitors, executors and beneficiaries when someone passes away. We know it can be a very difficult time for everyone involved; the Estates and Probate team is here to make the probate process as easy and as straightforward as possible. The team will help all parties involved, from the moment someone passes away to helping the executors understand all the options and how to transfer or withdraw the investment.

Institutional Funds team

Our Institutional Funds team works closely with institutional investors across the Octopus Group. Our responsibilities cover investor relations, communications and fundraising.

The team’s overriding objective is to develop long-term relationships with our investors, who include many leading financial institutions, pension funds, fund of funds and family offices. As a true fiduciary, the relationship we have with our investors is at the heart of our business and drives everything we do.

We currently manage £1.3bn on behalf of institutional investors through a variety of vehicles including provide equity funds and a listed fund (the MedicX fund).

Intermediate Capital team

The Intermediate Capital team typically invests between £2 million and £10 million into established, growing UK small and medium-sized companies. Investment is in the form of five-year interest-only debt and minority equity stakes. This capital is used to finance expansion plans, acquisitions or partial exits.

Members of the team come from diverse backgrounds, such as banking, private equity, industry, and provide investment and on-going strategic support to businesses, by joining the board of the portfolio companies as non-executive directors. They have the ability to originate and lead deals as well as invest alongside private equity firms and banks.

Multi Manager team

Our Multi Manager team manages assets of over £1.2 billion*. They invest in funds that are managed by expert fund managers who are specialists in the asset types or markets for which they’ve been chosen, so your money is under the control of a large number of highly-talented individuals. These funds have global coverage across multiple asset classes, with the aim of building investment portfolios that do what we say they will.

But it’s not just about choosing the right investments at the right time. The team manages risk above all else, with the aim of making sure their portfolios can achieve the maximum returns for the risks taken. They think about risk so much it sometimes keeps them awake at night. But they do it so you don’t have to.

Please note that the value of an investment, and any income from it, can fall as well as rise. Investors may not get back the full amount they invest.
